The Edenton Street Church Memorial Library is located in the main office area on the second floor between the sanctuary and the Poindexter Educational Building. It is open anytime the church office is open.
The Children’s Library is located on the third floor of the Poindexter Building and is always open when the church is open. The Children’s Library has books and videotapes for children. With “touch screen” access to the catalog and check-out, a child or parent can make use of this library anytime.
The combined libraries now consist of nearly 4,000 resources. The main library has resources for Bible study (commentaries, Bible dictionaries, etc.), devotional or inspirational reading, self-help, biographies, fiction, leadership education, and many other categories. There is also a good selection of VHS movies.
The library has a complete set of the twelve volumes, plus Index, of THE NEW INTERPRETER’S BIBLE. There are multi-volume sets of the INTERPRETATION COMMENTARIES SERIES, BARCLAY DAILY STUDY BIBLE SERIES, THE CAMBRIDGE BIBLE COMMENTARY SERIES, and there are several one-volume commentaries. The library subscribes to a selection of magazines, including Biblical Archaeology Review, Bible Review, Christian History, Faith at Work, and Weavings. The Efird Bible Study Series is a popular Bible study resource.
The United Methodist Women’s Reading Program is housed in the main library in a bookcase beside the windows. While these resources are paid for and belong to the UMW, they are available to anyone who wishes to read them.
The main library uses a card system for checking out resources. To take any resource from the main library, always sign the card in the back of the resource and leave it on the top of the bookcase just inside the door. There is a date stamp on the bookcase, but the librarian will take care of dating and filing the card. The Church Library does not have a “due date,” but the card is stamped with a date which lets the librarian know approximately when the resource was taken from the library. If the resource is not returned within 2 months, a friendly “reminder” will be sent. Resources should be placed in the “Book Returns” basket just inside the door and the librarian will check them in.
The main library also has compact disc recordings of the 10:55 worship services. Although there still is not a “due date,” these resources should be returned fairly soon so that others may have access to them.
The Church Librarian, Dorathy Chance, is available Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from mid-morning until mid-afternoon and at other times if needed.
