ESUMC supports these organizations with funds and church member volunteers.

AIDS Care Team - The Edenton Street UMC AIDS Care Team is looking for new members interested in joining this powerful, rewarding, Christ-filled ministry. The Care Team serves in conjunction with the Alliance of AIDS Services Carolina (http://www.aas-c.org/aasc/faith.html) to minister to people affected by HIV/AIDS, and raise awareness of this disease.  For more information contact Renae Newmiller.                                                        

Alliance Medical Ministries - A faith-based medical clinic for the working poor in Wake County. The clinic serves many Hispanic and other minority families and operates on a sliding-fee scale. Web site: http://www.alliancemedicalministry.org.

Building Together - Provides preschool, after school tutoring, parenting classes and other community outreach programs. Building Together employs staff personnel who live in the neighborhood and our financial support helps provide salary for these persons.

Habitat for Humanity - ESUMC is part of an Apostle's Build Team.  The team consists of local churches that come together to build homes with and for God's people in need. ESUMC commits to one build Saturday a month for six months.  This hands-on mission experience gives volunteers the opportunity to roll-up their sleaves and give a tangible expression of God's love to families desperate for a home.  Additionally, it gives volunteers the chance to know the families who invest hundreds of hours of their own labor - sweat equity - into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.  For information contact Larry Ford.

Ruth Sheets Adult Care Center - Provide high quality care for frail seniors and respite care for caregivers. The Center is located at Edenton St. Church, and operates 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 Monday-Friday with a variety of daily activities. Can use volunteers.

Sandwich Brigade - Monthly opportunity for groups and individuals to make sandwiches for the Shepherd's Table, a downtown soup kitchen sponsored by the Church of the Good Shepherd. Call Pat Keane at 919-676-5464 or email him to volunteer.

Gleaning Teams - Ann Faust leads one or two gleaning efforts per year in our local area.

Raleigh Rescue Mission - Provides outreach for homeless and others in need in the community. Edenton Street members lead men's worship service on 4th Friday night of each month.                                                       Web site: http://www.raleigh-rescue.org.

SAFEChild - SAFEchild's (Stop Abuse For Every Child) goal is to prevent and treat child maltreatment, prevent its reoccurrence and promote nurturing parenting styles in participating families to reduce dysfunction and build healthy, non abusive, positive familial interactions. Urban Ministries - Urban Ministries helps alleviate the burden of poverty in our community, serving over 20,000 individuals and families each year. At its headquarters near downtown Raleigh, Urban Ministries operates a crisis intervention program, the Open Door free medical clinic, and a central food pantry. The agency also operates the Helen Wright Center for Women, helping women rebuild their lives and move towards permanent housing. Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) - Edenton Street United Methodist Church supports the activities of Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network as they assist families in temporary disadvantaged situations by providing housing, meals, and transportation if required to enable the families to get back on their feet from unfortunate setbacks such as the loss of their job or housing. Families are screened and admitted into the program by the staff of Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) at their day Center located on Method Road in Raleigh, NC. Edenton Street United Methodist Church provides four weeks of housing support each calendar year. ESUMC also provides financial support to the operating budget of WIHN to help cover the cost of staff salaries, annual operating expenses such as electricity and office equipment. [more]
