The New Member Class is a series of lectures on various topics of interest to new and prospective members of the church. We present information on the sacraments of baptism and Communion, the topic of Worship, the United Methodist Church and its history and theology, how Methodist polity connects Methodists around the world, the fascinating history of this church since 1811, presentations from several ministry/mission areas of our church, and ways to get involved in the social and spiritual life of the church. The eighth and final session provides breakfast and discussion, and concludes with a tour of the church facility.
Besides providing a better understanding of the United Methodist Church in general, and this church in particular, this class offers a time for new and prospective members to meet fellow worshipers and make friendships which can last a lifetime. The eight classes recycle in four sessions each year. Each class is separate rather than sequential, and welcomes new members.
Welcome from our Minister of Evangelism...
"From word of mouth invitations to well-developed programs and worship services, Edenton Street UMC offers a hearty welcome to all people, hoping they will become a part of our church family. We aim to attract new people to Christ and the Church by making the spirit of Christ evident in everything we do. We believe that Christ is a wonderful spirit of love that was with God when God created the earth, then revealed in the physical person of Jesus, and after Jesus was crucified, now lives in everyone who calls him Lord and receives him as their personal Savior.
All people are welcome at our church, and there is something for everyone to do to serve the Lord here. We are a church rich in evangelism and eager to share Christ from the heart of Raleigh. Come see us, register your attendance at worship (8:40, 9:45 or 10:55 am), and let one of the pastors know of your interest in the church so you can be guided to activities that appeal to you. God bless you."
Rev. Kay Johnson, Minister of Evangelism
We receive new members by baptism, profession of faith, or transfer of membership from other United Methodist churches or Christian denominations. Arrangement for church membership may be obtained by calling one of the ministers at the main church member 832-7535
