Meet Lisa Yebuah - Pastor of Inviting Ministries

Pastor of Inviting Ministries

How long have you served at Edenton Street?
I've been on staff since the summer of 2009.

What's your favorite thing about working here?
I absolutely love the people and vision of this church … and there's always food somewhere!

What's the funniest thing that has happened to you here?

I have to make quick wardrobe changes on Sunday mornings because I’m always racing between our traditional and contemporary worship services. One Sunday I accidentally wore my robe inside-out!

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Nashville, Tenn., but I grew up in the lowcountry of South Carolina, which is kind of like living in a different country.

Where did you go to school?
Go Summerville Greenwave! Go Wofford Terriers! Go Duke Blue Devils!

How many children do you have?
I have none that live in my house or eat my food, but I do claim each child at Edenton Street as my own.

Any pets?
Lots of squirrels run around my yard. Does that count?

What is most important about your work at Edenton Street? What drives you? What is your passion?
Cultivating a beautiful marriage between the church and the world  - making God famous - catching glimpses of resurrection. I wouldn't want to spend my life doing anything else.

What two people have most influenced you?
A whole host of people have loved and inspired me into being.

What are your favorite books, movies or songs?
Elie Wiesel's Night still makes me cry. The foreign film The Color of Paradise and the comedy The Wedding Singer are by far my favorite movies. I sing "Come Thou Fount" with my eyes closed and with my heart open.

How do you like to spend your free time?
Laughing with friends, mowing the lawn, dancing, watching sports, going to the Farmer's Market, working out and reading.

If you weren’t a minister at Edenton Street, what would your profession be?
Since I'm too small to play professional football, let's just say that Stuart Scott on ESPN's Sports Center would have had some serious competition.

What’s your favorite food?
It’s a tie between McDonald's chicken nuggets and pad thai.

What do you order when you go to Starbucks?
A tall cafe mocha, skim milk, no whip, never on ice.

What did your parents call you when you were in trouble?
My full name in an unintelligible tongue!
