What’s your favorite thing about working here?
Grace abounds. Second chances offered. The Gathering is real time, Spirit-led, and messy lives are welcome. You can encounter Jesus and find His arms wide open.
Where were you born and raised?
Glenarden Woods, Md.
Where did you go to school?
Shenandoah Conservatory of Music
How many children do you have?
Three. Corin (married to Nick Kane); Justin, a senior at UNC-G; and Zachary, 18 (and musical).
Any pets?
None that I know of, but if I did, it would be this one here.
What is most important about your work with the Gathering? What drives you? What is your passion?
I love to see people realize that they are loved by God, regardless of their past mistakes, present situation or future outlook. Freedom is available, and second chances are gratuitous.
What two people have most influenced you?
My parents (they are one) and my best friend Dave.
What are your favorite books, movies or songs?
Crash is my favorite movie. Stevie Wonder is my favorite artist, and I also like anything by Bebo Norman (“Nothing Without You”) or Sam & Ruby. My favorite books are The Ragamuffin Gospel and Abba's Child. If anyone has read Abba’s Child, I’d like to sit down and have lunch with you.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I wish, diving. But mostly reading and running (not at the same time).
If you weren’t working at Edenton Street, what would your profession be?
Traveling doing relief work in Third World countries, and writing music. Maybe what I'm doing now, for free.
What do you order when you go to Starbucks?
I think everyone at the Gathering knows this already. Grande Triple Raspberry Mocha, on ice with soy, no whip.
What did your parents call you when you were in trouble?
I was one of eight kids, so Mom always forgot our names and would scroll through them like this, "Robby, Billy, Christopher ... Boy, get over here!" So the answer is ... “Boy.”
