At Edenton Street, we have numerous Adult Sunday school classes for a variety of life stages, faith journeys and teaching models.
Adult Sunday School Classes (9:45 a.m.)
Agape - Room 164
This is a topical study class that caters to young adults (mainly early 20’s to late 30’s—singles and couples). They strive to help each other in their walk with Christ by studying the Bible and associating with other Christians. They use materials that lend to a cumulative effect. It is mostly lecture, with discussion on some Sundays. They have many fellowship opportunities with a covered dish breakfast once a quarter (short devotion and no lesson), the “second Sunday lunch” where they meet for lunch after the10:55 service and many sports activities.
Bookmark - Room 167
This is a small discussion class. They read books of religious importance, both fiction and non fiction. Leaders come from within and outside the class. All ages are welcome to join the class.
“Children of God” Class - Room 163
This class acknowledges that they are Children of God with their mission being to seek a deeper relationship with Christ through various studies of scripture, Christian relational issues and family topics. They use various Christian books and guest speakers from the Church. It is mainly a discussion group with parents of all ages. Infants are welcome to attend with their parents. There is a nursing screen in the room.
CIRCA - Room 162
This class focuses on parenting and marriage from a Christian perspective and biblical basis. The class is geared toward couples with children born circa 2005-2010, but anyone interested is welcome! We meet each Sunday from 9:45- 10:45 in Room 162 in the Academy. Our curriculum is DVD-based and requires no preparation or homework.
Cokesbury Isley - Room 317
This is a Senior Adult class that uses the International Bible study. It is one of the oldest Sunday school classes in the church. The members know they can count on one another for support and encouragement. It is a lecture format and has teachers who are committed to teach on certain Sundays of each month. They have at least two socials a year with others planned throughout the year.
Crosstalk - Room 169
The topics in this class are diverse—ranging from the quarterly Methodist series, to social issues and issues that are of interest to the members of the class. Class members led the classes. The social activities are just as varied, including picnics, sporting events, and meals. Both singles and couples, ranging in age from 20 to 50 are welcome.
Discovery - Room 251
This class seeks to learn and grow by considering God’s word and then apply that understanding to their lives in such a way as to become walking examples of their beliefs. The teachers plan the topics to be discussed. Topics range from studies of books in the Bible to topics that are biblically based. Although described as mostly lecture, discussion is welcome and frequent. Social functions that range from evening events to brunches after church. Members are age 40 plus.
Elpis - Room 165
Elpis– The Greek word for “Hope”. Elpis is a class for young adults in their 20’s. The class studies a variety of topics, including Bible and book studies. The Elpis class meets once a month after church for lunch. New members are always welcome, so come join us for fellowship and study!
Faith Matters - Room 351
This couples class strives to enhance and deepen their relationship with Christ. Members are concerned with all aspects of family life from marriage and children, to aging parents. Although mostly a lecture format, there is usually some discussion. Most lessons are led by committed class members, with occasional guest speaker. Topics range from studies of books or individuals from the Bible to biblical based marriage and family life studies. Several socials are held each year.
Foundry Fellowship - Room 321
This class studies the word of God and enjoys Christian fellowship by studying scripture, books, and topics selected by the class. It is mainly a lecture class with the leadership coming from within the class and the Church at large. It includes singles and married couples 50+. The first Sunday of the month is a covered dish breakfast called “Muffin Sunday” with other socials throughout the year. The class supports a wide range of mission and charitable projects within the community and beyond.
Francis Asbury - Room 161
This class uses a varied curriculum with Bible study and topics related to God’s word. Teachers are mainly from the class membership, but guests occasionally teach. Most teachers use a lecture format, but discussion is encouraged. The class membership includes both singles and married couples ages 50+. Every 4th Friday the class meets for dinner at an announced restaurant. The ROMEOS (“retired old men eating out”) meet for lunch on Thursdays at the K&S Cafeteria in Cary. Other social events are planned for the class during the year.
Intentional Journey - Room 202A
This class attracts men and women of all ages who are interested in studying scripture. The focus is on discovering the meaning of each book of the Bible in its context. .
Jubilee - Room 357
This class strives to help one another with the process of their personal religious growth and understanding. This class is diverse in its topics using books, scripture, and videos. The leadership comes from within the class and the Church. Occasional social events are held.
LIFT - Room 166
Learning in Fellowship Together is a class made up of singles and couples 50 years and older. The group was established on the philosophy that getting to know members as individuals should be a priority. Allowing adequate time for fellowship and sharing among members would facilitate interpersonal relationships. Likewise, the group wishes to grow in the knowledge of the Bible and Christian discipleship. Both components, fellowship and study, will be incorporated in each session.
The New Member Class - 204 Parlor
Four sessions of eight classes are held each year. Classes are introductory lessons on Sacraments, Methodism, Edenton Street ministries and history. The last class is a breakfast and a tour of the church. Teachers are church leaders and pastors. The class consist of mostly new and prospective members.
One in Christ - Room 356
This class for singles, mainly 30 to 50ish, are searching for something more to grow in their faith and fellowship. Challenging and thought provoking topics are discussed. Socials are an integral part of this class.
Seekers Class - Room 168
This class includes married and singles of all ages. Members are “seeking” a closer personal relationship with God through various studies that will assist in their spiritual journey. Join us as we grow together in faith and friendship.
