Hunger
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat," Matthew 35:25
Sometimes its hard to believe that one in eight of our neighbors lives in poverty. ESUMC is involved with local and international efforts to help alleviate hunger in Raleigh and around the world. If you are interested in hunger issues, there are many opportunities to get involved.
Serving Opportunities:
- Monthly Food Drive - Throughout each month, ESUMC collects non-perishable food for local food pantries, which provide food to hundreds of people each day. Click here to find out what we're collecting this month.
- Sandwich Brigade - The Sundays before 4th Mondays Edenton Street provides 150 sandwiches to the Shepherd's Table, Raleigh's downtown soup kitchen. The sandwiches are easy to make and all ages can help. If you have made a meat, cheese, and mustard or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich before, you are pre-qualified! Email Rhonda Moseley to sign-up.
- Moore Square Food Distribution - Sort food donated from local grocery stores on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 PM in Cobb Hall. Food is distributed in Moore Square later that afternoon. Email Jim Bailey to learn more.
- Stop Hunger Now - Several times a year, ESUMC partners with Stop Hunger Now to help with the organization's international food relief efforts. Our next Stop Hunger Now event will be on September 8, 2012.
- Gleaning - There are opportunities throughout the year to glean with the Society of St. Andrew to provide food locally to those who are hungry. To learn more, click gleaning.
