Mission Trips

Each year, ESUMC offers several mission trips. Currently scheduled 2012 trips include:

Hurricane Irene Recovery in Eastern North Carolina - January 13-16, 2012

  • WHEN - We are planning a trip for Martin Luther King weekend: leave Friday after work, carpool to our host church (in eastern NC), work Saturday - Monday, return in the afternoon.
  • WHO - anyone 15 years and older. Maximum of 10 people.
    • Participants must complete the UMC Conference forms and return to Stuart.
    • Note: the insurance fee stated at the end of the form is waived for this work.
  • WHAT - The water flooded most homes to the level of 2' above the 1st floor. It came in quickly and left quickly. The type of work we have seen is pulling everything out of the crawlspace, taking up the floor sheathing, cutting the sheetrock 2' above the floor, removing insulation, then replacing with new materials.  The areas are typically low income. They estimate 1-2 years restoration work.
  • WHERE - Down east, Wanchese, NC near Manteo. 3 hour drive.
    • Stay in a church, w/ some other groups
    • Non-cooking breakfast, sandwiches for lunch
  • COST - not sure at this point.
    • You will be responsible for dinner Friday - Sunday, eat out at local family style.
    • Chip in for driver's gas
    • Portion of cost for breakfast, lunch food and paper products.
  • Email Stuart Jones for more information and to volunteer.

Haiti - January 21-28, 2012  ***  FULL  ***

This trip will be a combination of a medical team, construction and activities that revolve around simply being present with our Haitian brothers and sisters. We will be working with Pastor Leon Dorleans who builds community centers and is in charge of the House of Hope orphange. Email Philip Dail for more information.

Haiti - March, 2012

This work retreat will be based on following the spirituality of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. We will work in the House of Hope orphanage and the other ministries of Pastor Leon Dorleans, as well as Hearts with Haiti. Email Renae for more information.
