Prison Ministry at ESUMC takes many forms. Below are a few ways to get involved.
Disciple Bible Outreach Ministry
Throughout the year, volunteers teach Disciple Bible studies to incarcerated women. If you are interested in sharing Christ through this ministry, please email Nancy Powell.
Kairos This multi-denominational ministry, conducts 3-day (weekend) short courses to prepare selected residents for life in an ongoing Christian community. Residents then meet weekly to pray for each other and share their lives on a spiritual level. There are opportunities to serve in the prison as part of the weekend teams, and opportunities to help before a Kairos weekend by making cookies and other signs of agape for the inmates. Contact Phil Triplett to get involved.
Kairos Outside
Kairos Outside is designed to support the wives, mothers and female relatives of men and women who are incarcerated. This is done by providing a safe environment a few weekends a year with Christian people and the opportunity to interact with women in similar situations. The weekends provide an opportunity to explore one's relationship with God, and to also experience a time of fun, music, great food and community. To help with Kairos Outside, email Linda Davis.
Prison Match of NC
This ministry provides incarcerated mothers and their children with the support and resources neccessary to maintain their family relationships. Each year, ESUMC sponsors an angel tree to provide Christmas gifts from the mothers to their children. Additionally, there are ongoing opportunities to volunteer at Prison Match. Re-entry ESUMC is involved with efforts to help people who are getting out of prison have a successful re-entry into society. Email Renae Newmiller if you are interested in helping with these efforts.
