Additional Ways to Give

We're grateful to offer multiple giving options to help you be a faithful steward. Depending on your financial situation, one of these methods may provide additional tax advantages:

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)

If you're 70½ or older, you may benefit from giving directly from your IRA—especially if you're 73+ and taking Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs).

Benefits of QCD giving:

  • Satisfy your RMD requirement without increasing taxable income

  • Give up to $108,000 per person annually

  • Potentially reduce Medicare premiums, Social Security taxes, and more

  • Make generous gifts while maximizing tax efficiency

How it works: Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct transfer to Edenton Street United Methodist Church. The distribution counts toward your RMD but isn't included in your taxable income. Your QCD can be directed to ESUMC's General Fund, Building Endowment, or the ESUMC Foundation---allowing you to support the area of ministry most meaningful to you.

Note: Please consult your financial advisor to determine if this option benefits your specific situation.

Stock, Securities, or Mutual Funds

Donating appreciated stocks or securities can be more tax-advantageous than giving cash. You may avoid capital gains tax while receiving a charitable deduction for the full market value. Stock gifts can be designated to ESUMC's General Fund, Building Endowment (for facility needs), or ESUMC Foundation (for mission and ministry).

To initiate a stock transfer, contact Joni Earp at jearp@esumc.org for our brokerage information.

Donor Advised Funds (DAF)

If you have a Donor Advised Fund, you can recommend a grant to Edenton Street UMC directly through your DAF provider. This is a simple way to support our ministry with pre-planned giving.
